According to my Dodge mechanic he says the 5.9 does take awhile to warm up. And it runs just under 200 on flat road empty, 200 towing the 5er on flat road, but does jump to around 210 going up a hill in 100 deg weather with the 5er on. Guy says that is normal also.
Re: Cummins 6bt 5.9-m thermostat replacement? I'm pretty sure my 5.9 bta (270hp Diamond series) manual says the operating temp is from 160 to 205 degrees (to be checked at the engine outlet). According to the gauges, mine both run at 192-ish at idle speed and about 195 at a 2200 rpm cruise...
50/50 temp A 50/50 coolant mix with a 15 lb. cap will take the boiling point to 265 degrees. I have my spare tire mounted on my front bumper so the engine temp will get to 220 degrees going up a steep grade in the summer. It does not boil and I have a 7 lb. cap. If the temp starts to go over 220 then I just downshift and that cures it.
